Representative Rosemary Marshall receives CMLA’s ‘Legislator of the Year’ Award

At the CMLA Democrat caucus October 17, former CMLA Chairman Debi Taylor presented the Legislator of the Year Award to Rep. Rosemary Marshall (D-Dist. 8), and Chairman of the House Business Affairs and Labor Committee.

Since her sponsorship of House Bill 1259 in 2002, which established anti-predatory lending legislation and defined deceptive trade practices for all loan originators in Colorado, CMLA has had the good fortune to work with Representative Marshall. During the 2006 general session, Representative Marshall sponsored House Bill 1323, the Residential Mortgage Fraud Crime bill, which CMLA welcomes as a legitimate and effective effort to deter mortgage fraud in Colorado.

“We most appreciate the fact that House Bill 1323 affects all loan originators.  As with HB-1259 in 2002, House Bill 1323 this year avoided the disappointing segregation issues that are inherent with mortgage broker registration and licensing,” former Chairman Taylor noted. “During my term as chairman of the CMLA, I came to appreciate Representative Marshall’s professionalism and courtesy, even for those who sometimes disagree with her position.  I am grateful for her time in working with Chris Holbert and Evan Goulding on bills ranging from foreclosure reform to meth lab disclosure requirements, from identity theft to oversight of affiliated business arrangements. Whether CMLA offered support or “respectful opposition”, Representative Marshall took our views into consideration and managed legislation to a positive outcome.”

CMLA’s Legislator of the Year Award exemplifies our efforts to work in non-partisan ways with legislators from both sides of the political aisle to achieve effective legislation. As an organization committed to a world of homeownership achieved through the practice of integrity based lending, the CMLA is proud to represent the greatest system of community investment ever to exist, and we are grateful to legislators who respect our views and appreciate the tremendous value we offer to the citizens of Colorado.
