The Value of the CML Designation

Faced with the challenges today, it’s more important than ever to do business with those who know the business of mortgage lending – those who have made a long-term commitment to education and to staying abreast of the issues that are before us.

CMLA lender members - meaning mortgage bankers and brokers - demonstrate their commitment to integrity-based lending through voluntary membership with CMLA and by abiding by the association's Code of Ethics. CMLA members are encouraged to have ongoing involvement in educational events and community initiatives. Lenders who have industry experience and who have demonstrated professional aptitude can apply for and may obtain the designation Certified Mortgage Lender (CML). In order to receive the CML designation, an applicant must have been in the mortgage industry for at leasat two years and certify that they have not been convicted of a felony and that they are not listed on the Fannie Mae Excluded Parties List or HUD Limited Denial of Participation (LDP) lists.

When consumers do business with a CMLA member, they can feel confident that they'll have a professional lending experience. Taking that a step further, doing business with an individual who is a Certified Mortgage Lender (CML) indicates a desire to do business with a documented professional who strives to earn repeat and referral business through long term relationships with his or her customers. Reputable lenders will provide quality services at competitive prices.

CMLA encourages consumers to include CMLA members in their shopping efforts, especially those individuals who hold the designation Certified Mortgage Lender. If you want to set yourself apart, apply for your Certified Mortgage Lender designation today!
