Communications & Liaisons

CMLA maintains a wide variety of pro-active efforts to communicate quality information with the Colorado mortgage community, state and local media, the general public, professional organizations, and governmental bodies to stay on the forefront of the promotion of ethical and professional standards within the mortgage industry.

Mortgage Industry: CMLA provides numerous publications, such as the membership directory, bi-monthly newsletter, broadcast faxes, brochures, and manuals that inform members of timely issues and events. CMLA organizes many seminars, workshops and events that also educate members on recent industry matters. CMLA also maintains committees and task forces to encourage members to express views, promote activities, network, and meet industry challenges.

State and Local Media: The association is dedicated on behalf of both member interests and consumer concerns to maintaining a positive and productive relationship with appropriate local, regional and national news media. Press information is generated and distributed through the CMLA Publicity Committee to proper media contacts.

General Public: CMLA provides several avenues and resources for consumers to receive quality information about association members and ethical mortgage practices. Consumers can get questions answered through the CMLA Consumer Help Line, receive information about member lenders through the Consumer Directory of Mortgage Loan Services, and can resolve complaints through the CMLA Ethics Committee, which has an informal working agreement with the Attorney General's Office to receive and resolve complaints related to the mortgage industry.

Professional & Investor Organizations: CMLA maintains direct liaison with professional and investor entities such as the Mortgage Bankers Association of America, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, Veterans Administration, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, Ginnie Mae, National Association of Realtors, Colorado Association of Home Builders, and Colorado Housing Council. Officers, members of the board, committee members and staff contribute to on-going efforts to share information and further relations with these organizations.

Government Agencies: CMLA retains the services of a legislative lobbyist and a legal counsel to advise the membership of pending legislative, and judicial issues which may impact the industry. Through these persons and an active Legislative Committee, CMLA works for passage of legislation benefiting the industry and Colorado homeowners, publishes periodic legislative reports and position statements, and communicates directly with legislators on numerous topics. Finally, the Colorado Mortgage Lenders Political Action Committee (CMLPAC) is a voluntary, non-profit, non-partisan organization whose purpose is to provide assistance to state election campaigns. Members may choose to contribute funds to CMLPAC to support legislative issues or state candidates.
