Chairman's Letter, Updates: Member Forums

CMLA PROFESSIONAL FORUMS

The Colorado Mortgage Lenders Association (CMLA) is offering peer to peer Forums to members.  The purpose is to provide an opportunity for mortgage professionals to join together to:

  • Address industry challenges;
  • Share ideas and insights;
  • Positively influence change and innovation within the mortgage lending industry; and,
  • Promote the advancement of professional mortgage lending in Colorado.

Forum meetings take place on a standing day and time every month, except for July and December.  Each monthly meeting is hosted by a member.  The standard format involves the presentation of a specific topic, as identified by the members, followed by discussion.  Content is relevant to the specific Forum and may include discussions on:

  • Industry changes / opportunities / best practices;
  • Regulatory / compliance issues:
  • Community issues;
  • Legislative issues;
  • Professional development; or,
  • Business practices and trends.

All Forum members must be members of the CMLA and must be a true peer among peers.  Each Forum has a different fee schedule for membership dues, which are in addition to membership fees for CMLA; all Forum dues are paid on a quarterly basis.  Each member is required to sign a Code of Conduct.

Two Forums have already been created and are open to new members who meet the following qualifications:

  • Executive Forum for upper level executives of larger mortgage entities:
    • Company must be a mortgage banker, bank or credit union funding its own loans and be of significant size to have a full spectrum of operational functions; and,
    • Individual must hold the title of Owner, Chairman, Chief Executive Officer, President or Executive Vice President with global responsibility for multiple facets of the entity.
    • Maximum group size is 12 people.
    • Only one individual from each entity is invited to participate. 
  • Operational and Compliance Forum for operations and compliance executives:
    • Company must be a mortgage banker, bank or credit union.  Vendors are allowed only if the products and services offered are related to mortgage operations and compliance (e.g., fulfillment companies, quality control companies); however, solicitation of forum members is not allowed.
    • Individual must hold the title of Operations Manager; Compliance Manager; or hold a similar position with responsibility for multiple facets of operations or compliance within the entity.
    • Maximum group size is 20 people.
    • Multiple people from the same entity are invited to participate.
