How can I file a complaint against a member or non-member?

The CMLA Ethics Committee welcomes written complaints regarding member or non-member mortgage companies. Complaints may involve an individual, or pertain to a company in general.

As CMLA is not a government agency, we have no authority to force or mediate a resolution to any complaint. However, CMLA members have agreed to abide by our Code of Ethics and must willingly cooperate with the CMLA Ethics Committee in resolving consumer complaints.

When a written complaint is received at the CMLA office, we make record of the complaint in our database, then send written notification of the complaint to the company involved. It is our first concern to get input from all parties involved.

If and when a response is provided from the company involved, the CMLA Ethics Committee will review the original complaint and the lender's response. A determination will be made as to whether the CMLA Code of Ethics has been violated, and if so, what resolution is necessary to resolve the issue.

CMLA members may voluntarily agree to that resolution, or risk termination of membership. While non-members do not risk the loss of membership, unresolved complaints may prevent a non-member from obtaining future CMLA membership.

You may submit a written complaint by email by clicking here. However, should you wish to provide supporting documentation, you may send your complaint by regular mail to the following address:

When sending a written complaint, please provide individual and corporate names, dates, and contact information (mailing address, phone numbers, email addresses, etc.) that may help us resolve the issue.
