About Us

History of CMLA

The Colorado Mortgage Lenders Association (CMLA) was founded in 1956 as the representative voice of mortgage lending in Colorado. We are classified as a 501(c) 6 Not-for-Profit Trade Association.

Since CMLA's inception, our members have accounted for the vast majority of the mortgage lending in Colorado. Members include residential and commercial mortgage banking companies, individual mortgage loan originators, mortgage brokers, wholesale lenders, savings & loan associations, commercial banks, credit unions, government agencies, non-profit organizations and companies that provide affiliated services to mortgage lenders.

CMLA Mission

Our mission is to use the power of Advocacy, Education, Connection and Community to support our industry in making a positive and sustainable impact on responsible homeownership.

CMLA Leadership

CMLA is governed by two boards, the Board of Governors and the Board of Directors. The role of the Board of Governors is to provide long-term strategic decision-making and to oversee and ensure the fiscal health of the Association. Members of the Board of Governors are expected to devote their time, influence and resources to advance the strategic mission of the Association. The Board of Directors is appointed by the Board of Governors and is responsible for the implementation of the activities of the Association, including its education, membership and networking functions.

Statewide Presence

In 1996, CMLA incorporated the Southern Colorado Mortgage Lenders Association and Northern Colorado Mortgage Lenders Association into a chapter system that covers all regions of Colorado. CMLA currently maintains a statewide presence with active participation throughout the Denver metro area as well as the Northern, Southern and Western regions (chapters) of the state.

Purpose

The Colorado Mortgage Lenders Association has been the "Go-To" organization for the mortgage lending industry in Colorado since 1956. We are committed to a standard of excellence in supporting our industry, members and the general public. We do this by providing valuable programs, services and events designed to support Education, Representation and Networking.

Association Awards

Once a year CMLA will present deserving Association members with various awards as appropriate. Nominations will be accepted by the CMLA membership in advance. The timeframe for these nominations is typically late Spring/early Summer.
